WHAT: ESSENCE MUSIC FESTIVAL
WHEN: July 3-5, 2009
WHERE: New Orleans, Louisiana
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: The largest African American family festival in the country. Over 250,000 people attend New Orleans for a mix of Jazz, R&B, Food, socializing, networking, concerts, speaker series and more. It's the #1 event during the July Holiday weekend. Be there to see headliners like Beyonce, Maxwell, Neyo, and more who are also on tour now. For there other days after the Essence fest, visit ticketmaster.

WHAT: SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK 
WHEN: Early August
WHERE: Nationwide (most cities)
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: If you have an urge to attend a Shakespeare play and relax on the grass, this is your spot. It's casual and available in most urban cities. It's a great way to have a free romantic evening or an eccentric evening out with friends. Bring a blanket, food, and even a bottle of wine to make it official.

WHAT: TASTE OF CHICAGO
WHEN:
July 3-5, 2009
WHERE: Chicago, Illinois
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: Every summer the city of Chicago has an incredible festival. The largest and most used streets are closed downtown. Grant Park, the most visited park in Chicago, is used to hold this event. The people dine on ribs, cheeseburgers, pizza, ice cream, and hundreds of other foods. Over 100 of the city's most famous restaurants set up shop. Basically the entire city slows down for this event. This is The Taste of Chicago. Click here for more information.














WHAT: LIL' WAYNE CONCERT
WHEN: August 9. 2009
WHERE: Atlanta, Ga

WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: Because Lil' Wayne is HOT right now and in the height of his career. He begins his tour internationally this summer, but if you want to meet him on middle ground, travel to the mecca of Rap, Atlanta, Ga. If "tha A" is not the spot for you, click here to see other locations for this tour, like Wayne's Aug 2 concert in Virginia Beach, VA.  But if you want to see a full lineup, try to make it to the Atlanta show. There you will get Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Drake, Pleasure P, and Jeremih.

WHAT: THE INDIANA BLACK EXPO
WHEN:
July 9-19, 2009
WHERE:
Indianapolis, Indiana
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: The largest black expo in the country. More concerts, basketball tournaments, vendors, special events, college events, speakers and activities than any other expo event. For more on the Expo, click here.


WHAT: ATLANTA FALCONS PRE-SEASON GAME
WHEN: August 29, 2009
WHERE: Atlanta, Ga
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: It's football season again and what way to kick off the season in one of the best cities in the South? Starting at 8 p.m. at Atlanta's Georgia Dome, you can catch the Falcons during their pre-season game against the San Diego Chargers. Tickets range from $3-$550. Get them early.

WHAT: REGGAE SUMFEST 2009
WHEN: July 19-25, 2009
WHERE: Montego Bay, Jamaica
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: The Reggae Sumfest is the world's premier Reggae festival which brings the hottest reggae and dance hall artist from all over the world to the Reggae capital island of the world. Montego Bay, Jamaica the island's second city, has been the home of the famed Reggae Sunsplash and is now the permanent home of the Reggae Sumfest festival. WHAT: DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
WHEN:
August 14, 2009: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
WHERE: Ft. Myers, FL
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: Shoppers, along with their dogs, will enjoy wine and live music plus special canine treats at participating merchants. The event is free with beverage donations benefiting Gulf Coast Humane Society.
WHAT: U.S. VIRGIN ISLAND LIFESTYLE AND MUSIC FESTIVAL

July 23 - 26, 2009 Islands
WHERE:
St. Thomas and St.Croix, U.S. Virgin
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE: This is the hottest event in the Caribbean. Over 5,000 participants visit the Virgin Islands for the super beach event for grown folks. Jazz, R&B, Caribbean and Gospel Concerts, Beach party with live entertainment, Nightclub parties, Shopping and Island tours and a Health Empowerment (Wellness) Day. For more, click here.





WHAT: MOVIES WITH A VIEW AT BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK
WHEN:
Through August 27, 2009
WHERE:
Brooklyn, NY
WHY YOU SHOULD BE THERE:
